Digital Backend for Commercial Vehicles
The automotive world has been undergoing a major revolution, driven by technological transformation toward software-defined vehicles and digital services enabled by connectivity. Both established companies and emerging players are developing innovative, customized vehicles and solutions for different types of users. While this shift has been profound in consumer vehicles, the transformation in commercial vehicles —such as fleet cars, vans, and trucks— has been even deeper, with increasingly digitalized solutions tailored to each vehicle’s specific use.
More and more, fleet managers view these vehicles as tools within a productive process —assets whose use must be optimized through digital capabilities and services.
A new Spanish manufacturer of last-mile logistics and urban service vehicles partnered with GALEO and Y-Mobility to define the digital services of its vehicles and to create a shared cloud platform enabling the development and operation of these services, which complement the functional capabilities of their fleets.
This digital platform integrates signals generated by the vehicle and its systems with cloud-based services that directly interact with the vehicle, providing maximum monitoring capability and enabling cloud services to actively influence vehicle behavior. This supports functions such as fleet management, vehicle protection, passenger safety, and cargo security.
The open platform also allows third parties to extend its capabilities through simple APIs that make it easy to integrate externally developed services.

Thanks to this digital infrastructure, our client is able to:
- Maintain a highly scalable cloud infrastructure, capable of adapting to the evolving demands of vehicle data extraction and processing.
- Send commands to vehicles, such as door locking/unlocking or engine start.
- Integrate with third-party tools, such as video camera providers or external sensors.
- Offer advanced fleet management capabilities that can integrate with commercial solutions and include manufacturer-certified, native options to interact with vehicle behavior.
The solution is built on cloud-managed services, using serverless technologies that automatically scale, ensuring an optimal balance between cost and performance.
Data transmission is handled through the Telematics Control Unit (TCU), which enables secure, bidirectional communication with the cloud via encrypted channels.
By developing vehicles with advanced digital and technological capabilities, our client has positioned itself at the forefront of the urban service vehicle market, gaining the ability to create innovative service models and new revenue streams based on these high-value digital services for its customers.
